Temecula is located just a short distance from San Diego, CA and is bounded on the northwest by Murrieta, and the Pechanga Indian Reservation to the south. Thanks to its central location, nearly the same distance from San Diego, Los Angeles and many other large communities in Southern California, Temecula has become a bedroom community. It’s proximity to military bases have made it very popular with military families and the population is quickly growing. More than 100,000 people call Temecula home and after a short visit, it’s easy to see why they do.
History
As the nearby reservation would indicate, the first settlers in this area where the Native Americans. Many discovered artifacts put their time in this area to be close to 10,000 years. The Luiseno Indians were there when the Spanish explorers and missionaries came ashore in the 1700′s and began settling the region. Many of their descendents still live in the reservation today.
The Mission of San Luis Rey de Francia was established in the late 1700′s and shortly after that, the Mission of Santa Antonio de Pala was built. In 1844 land grants were given that would later become the city now known as Temecula. Many battles of the Mexican-American War took place right here and local museums are great places to visit to learn more about this tumultous time.
Development started out slowly, although the town was quickly mentioned by famous authors who has passed through such as Helen Hunt Jackson. The Vail Ranch was founded in the early 1900′s and much of this property would later become the actual city.
From 1990 to now, expansion has been rapid and development has spread quite quickly, but wisely. This is still a small community that hasn’t lost touch with nature.
Attractions
Temecula is home to numerous museums and you can still visit the missions that were founded hundreds of years ago. There are plenty of shops and activities available for the entire family. Golf courses abound in this area and thanks to the climate, you can play all year round.
For those who want a taste of excitement, nearby San Diego offers professional sporting events, their renowned Zoo, Sea World and many other exciting diversions that the whole family can enjoy. You’ll be just minutes from some of the best attractions southern California has to offer.
Living Here
Temecula may be hard to pronounce but it’s very easy to live here. You’ll be within just a few minutes of all that San Diego has to offer including it’s popular zoo, an international airport and plenty of big city attractions. With a little bit of small town living located so close to the city, you’ll be able to take advantage of the best of both worlds by living here.
The school district here is highly acclaimed and the area is very family friendly. With plenty of things to see and do all year round and San Diego within a few minutes drive, it’s easy to see why so many people are making Temecula their home.
