Cardiff-by-the-Sea

Cardiff-by-the-SeaCardiff by the Sea is commonly known as Cardiff to the 12,000 locals that call it home. A great little community located right in between Encinitas and Solana Beach, Cardiff is home to many different attractions and some of the best beaches in the area. Whether you are looking for a place to slow down in, or you just want to claim a little piece of California as your own personal paradise, Cardiff has a lot to offer.

History

Cardiff BeachCardiff by the Sea was developed in 1911 by a man named J. Frank Cullen. He named it in honor of his wife who was from Wales and you’ll find many streets today that bear English and Welsh names, adding to the town’s charm. This is a peaceful community and always has been. As an early development, it was intended that it be an oasis for residents and it is clear that this is still the main reason that many people move here.

The “by the sea” part of the name was actually added on by a German musician named Victor Kramer and the name stuck, even though it later fell out of use.

One of the more interesting parts of this community is the attention to detail. The planners wanted to make sure that the community was entirely “walkable” and you’ll find everything you need within just a short distance. This attention to detail makes Cardiff stand out and makes it a very friendly place to live, especially if you prefer not to drive. Even the nearby lagoon with some of the best fishing in the area is easily within walking distance from the center of the community.
